About Paradromics
Brain-related illness is one of the last great frontiers in medicine, not because the brain is unknowable, but because it has been inaccessible. Paradromics is building a brain-computer interface (BCI) platform that records brain activity at the highest possible resolution: the individual neuron. AI algorithms then decode this massive amount of brain-data, enabling the seamless translation of thought into treatments.
Our first clinical application, the Connexus® BCI, will help people who are unable to speak, due to ALS, spinal cord injuries and stroke, to communicate independently through digital devices. However, the capabilities of our BCI platform go far beyond our first application. With the brain in direct communication with digital devices, we can leverage technology to transform how we treat conditions ranging from sensory and motor deficits to untreatable mental illness.
The Role
The Electrical (PCB) Engineer will transform high-level electrical design intent into complete, manufacturable board designs. Working closely with senior engineers, this person will produce schematics, assist with component selection and substitution, and lay out complex, multi-layer PCBs. They will prepare clean release packages and coordinate with vendors to ensure successful fabrication. Once boards arrive, they will inspect, test, and support bring-up to ensure readiness for system integration.
Responsibilities
- Translate system-level electrical design intent into detailed schematics.
- Select components, evaluate alternates, and maintain component libraries.
- Perform PCB layout for multi-layer boards (6+ layers), including high-speed, low-noise, and RF routing.
- Generate complete release documentation packages, including drawings, BOMs, and revision notes.
- Coordinate with PCB fabrication and assembly vendors; incorporate DFM/DFA feedback.
- Support PCB bring-up, debugging, and characterization using oscilloscopes, power supplies, DMMs, and similar equipment.
- Develop simple test fixtures or scripts to support inspection and testing.
- Contribute to design reviews and document decision-making outcomes.
- Maintain organized design files and version control discipline across projects.
Required Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in PCB design software, ideally Altium Designer.
- Demonstrated experience creating schematics and selecting electronic components.
- Experience with component library management (symbols, footprints, 3D models).
- Proven ability to route low-noise, high-speed, or RF signals on 6+ layer PCBs.
- Understanding of design-for-test, including test-point strategy and module isolation.
- Ability to produce clean documentation: release drawings, BOMs, revision notes.
- Experience working with PCB vendors and applying DFM/DFA best practices.
- Hands-on experience inspecting and testing fabricated PCBs using standard lab instruments.
- Strong communication skills, ability to take feedback, and comfort working in a fast-paced hardware development environment.
- Demonstrated ownership of designs, from schematic capture through preliminary bring-up.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using Python or similar scripting languages to control lab instruments.
- Experience with rigid-flex PCB design.
- Experience in wireless power transfer design.
- Exposure to medical devices, implantable systems, or regulated hardware environments.
